Stichting Jarige Job Spaarkaart app
In the Netherlands there are more than 100,000 children who cannot celebrate their birthday because there is simply no money for it. The Jarige Job Foundation helps these children by giving them a ‘birthday box’. This box contains everything needed for a real birthday at home and at their school.
Challenge
In the Netherlands there are tens of thousands of children who cannot celebrate their birthday because their families cannot afford it. Stichting Jarige Job helps them by giving a birthday box to these children. The birthday box contains everything needed for a great birthday celebration, at home and at school. We were asked to come up with a fun digital solution for children to save money together to make another child's birthday possible. Make your party someone else's party too. Asking for donations in the Netherlands, where so many charities are already active, is quite difficult to do. In addition, children themselves cannot easily donate money, this is mainly done through the parents. And throwing money in a collection box or transferring money is a one-time action that does not build a real relationship with the donor. Time for a creative approach!
Solution
We came up with an App that allows children, schools, clubs, churches and other institutions to start a fundraising campaign alone or together. The app works simply: the user creates an ac- count and then creates a fundraising campaign. The App is set up like a game. There is a path to walk that consists of 35 boxes, each box must be filled with 1 euro. Once you have walked the path, you have made someone else's birthday possible. Of course the user is rewarded for this with nice visual extras within the App, think of special avatars.
The user can then ask the family on his/her birthday for a small donation to make another child's birthday possible. By sharing a link or scanning the QR code in the App, donations can be made directly online. The money goes directly to Stichting Jarige Job. In the app the user can see who and how much everyone has dona- ted. Hopefully there will be a battle between Uncle John and Aunt Caroline for 1st place.
The savings campaign can also be shared with friends, classmates or, for example, teammates from the sports club. This way you can raise money together during a charity run or any other event.
